Welcome to the trial that will forever change the tiny town of Maycomb. Or will it? Please answer all of the following questions. You will need to examine a new link on the blog to answer #3.
1) Reading Response: What is Tom Robinson's fatal mistake? In other words, what qualities do we find that Tom possesses, as a person, that render his fate sealed? (Chapter 19)
2) What is the author trying to tell us about people, or more specifically the people of Maycomb, in the scene between Mr. Dolphus Raymond and Dill? (Chapter 20) Why is it important for us to have a glimpse into these type of characters in the novel? Think about our attitudes towards modern day race relations.
You will need to look at the information on the link "History: Little Rock Nine" to answer the following question.
3) Compare or contrast a character's actions from the novel to the actions of someone (individual or an entire group) on either side of the Little Rock Nine's historical conflict. Please use specific examples from both sources. (This response should be no more than 5 sentences in length).

some problems with tom orbinso are that he is left handed and the girl was punched on the left side of her face. he is also strong young and black and the court sistem of the time is rigged against black peopl.
ReplyDelete3. When the little rock 9 came to school they were note accepted at all and were treated verry roughgly. i do not feal that there are to many similarities to the children from mayycomb. However, i do feal that their are similartities between them and toom robinson in the fact that thigns are unfair for both of them and that the whole town is against them.
the girl was punched on the left side of her face, tom was lefthanded also the punch was large and tom is strong the court system is also corrupt with an allwhite jury
ReplyDelete1)The girl was punched on the left side of the face when she was raped and Tom Robinson is left handed, giving further evidence, also he is strong enough to give that blow.
ReplyDelete3)I feel that tom robinson and The little rock nine are similar because they both are always discriminated against no matter what they do or what difference they make
2. THe scene between Mr. Raymond and Dill was that though they may appear to be nice, evil people can still be evil
ReplyDelete3. I think that the Ewells are simmilar to the white students at little rock central high school because they are both racist and hate any African-American that comes their way
1) Toms mistake was that Mr Gilmer got him to admit that he has the strength, to give a blow, even with one hand, to choke Mayella. he also was left handed and the side of the face that Mayella was hit was on her left side. Mr. Gilmer also asked Tom why he went to the house. tom said he often helps Mayella with chores. Why? he felt sorry for her.
ReplyDelete3)i think that the Little Rock NIne and Tom Robinson are related in many ways. but especially because of the color of their skin it is hard to be taken seriously. like when in court, Tom is innocent but because of his color he is treated poorly. the little rock nine were also treated poorly for the color of the skin. but they made a difference to little rock and the entire US like the Tom Robinson Case is doing for maycomb.
1. Tom's mistake was admitting he felt sorry for a white girl. Also to say he had the strength to hurt Mayella.
ReplyDelete3. The Little Rock Nine and Tom Robinson are similar in many ways. Tom Robinson is treated unfairly by racist white people, like when the mob comes to hang him after getting him from the jail. The Little Rock Nine was also treated badly by white people.
3. Little Rock Nice and Tom Robinson are alike because of how they get treated for being different. Tom Robinson get badly treated because of the color of the his skin and his race. Just like Tom Robinson, Little Rock Nine is treated poorly because of the color of the skin. They made a huge difference to everyone and effected lots of people.
ReplyDelete1. Tom Robinson's mistake was that he said he felt sorry for her to the court. In Maycomb, a black man couldn't be sorry for a white girl.
ReplyDelete2. Mr. Dolphus was actually drinking coca-cola but pretending he was drunk because he preferred the black community rather than the white. He used the coverup that he was a drunk bum to give the people an explanation for his lifestyle and interracial relationships.
3. I think that the Little Rock Nine are not like anyone in To Kill A Mockingbird. The Little Rock Nine's story, though, is most similarly compared to Tom Robinson's because they are both treated unfairly and violently because of their race.

ReplyDeleteToms fatal mistake was admitting he had enough strength to hold a girl down whilst punching her on the left side of her face. He also received much bias because he was a black man being convicted with an all white Jury.
ReplyDeleteWhen the girl from the Little rock nine dumped her food on some white students she reminded me of scout. Scout has a quick temper and gets mad easily at some little things. Im not saying that white kids was a little thing it just reminded me of Scout.
Tom Robinson's mistake was when he admitted that he had the strength to hold down a girl, and punching her in the face, even with one hand. This made it even harder for a black man in an all white court.
ReplyDelete2. I think this relation is important because it shows that people can be a lot different than they seem. People can do and feel one thing but be seen in a different way make them seem like. Many teenagers do this to change their appearance.
ReplyDelete3. The Tom Robinson case and the Little Rock Nine are similar in many ways. This is because both were held against prejudice and racism.
1 I think that tom robinson's fatal mistake was that he was to kind to white people and that he was to giving and didnt realize that he could and did get killed for even being near a white girl that liked him.
ReplyDelete2. i think that it was good that scout found out that raymond was faking because it showed that he isnt a very bad person like the one he "puts on" in front of other people.
3.the comparison between little rock 9 and to kill a mocking bird i think would be between scout an Minijean Brown. the example are like when scout fights walter and some of the other boys because they pick on her dad. this acts the same as when mini would dump things all over the other kids heads because they picked on her.
